The Concierge Utility® for C&I
and Institutional Customers

Always On, Always Green, Always Save

Exergy Energy is a Concierge Utility® for commercial and industrial customer seeking to become 100% resilient to blackouts, save money and may need decarbonization support. Exergy provides energy as a service, energy management and energy brokerage services to help our customers meet their energy and sustainability goals.

Our Backup-as-a-Service offering as well as our energy efficiency improvements, require no upfront CAPEX.

How We Do It

  • Exergy provides your organization with a backup generator sized to power your entire operation for Zero CAPEX. No more limitations, like sizing your generator to power only life-and-safety or critical operations, and no more capital budgeting requirements – with Exergy, your business operates through a blackout with Zero CAPEX.
  • We advise you on the best fixed-rate electricity supply contract for your organization. This removes the risk of rising electricity rates. Many of our customer select 100% renewable energy to become entirely green.
  • Exergy owns, operates, maintains, and manages your backup so you can focus on your day-to-day business. Exergy charges a monthly Resiliency Fee for this service.
  • Since generators sit idle 99.9% of the time waiting for a blackout, Exergy uses the backup facility to provide grid services that support the addition of intermittent renewables to the Grid. Exergy earns ancillary cash flows from our grid services, which we share with you to defray your monthly fee.
  • At the end of our agreement, ownership of the backup facility transfers to your organization.

Why Exergy’s Service is Superior

No other provider offers what Exergy does: a zero-CAPEX backup power facility sized to your entire organization, with completely outsourced service / maintenance / management, monthly payments that are partly (or in some markets, completely) offset by shared cash flows from Ancillary Grid Services, and a service that is structured completely off-balance sheet.

About Exergy Energy

About Exergy Energy

We Are Exergy Energy

Exergy is a Concierge Utility® providing Backup-as-a-Service, Energy Procurement, Facility Electrification, and Carbon Footprint services.

Exergy’s Backup-as-a-Service:

• Full facility backup power with onsite generators, for when the Grid fails
• Zero upfront CAPEX, zero maintenance costs, and zero hassles for your organization; all services related to the backup generator are handled by Exergy
• Simple fixed monthly Resiliency Fee for life of contract (typically 10 years)
• Achieve your corporate sustainability goals: Exergy can reduce your energy carbon footprint by 100% by procuring for you renewable or zero-carbon energy from low-cost, utility scale generators.

Exergy Statement of Qualifications

Why We Founded Exergy

Energy has been at the core of our co-founder David March’s career since the beginning. When he was vice president of R&D and Chief Operating Officer for three high tech manufacturing companies, he focused on developing and getting new products out the door. Energy was an essential aspect of his operations, yet it was also inconsequential.

As David puts it, “Things were easier then; I didn’t really worry that much about energy. Electricity and natural gas were inexpensive – typically less than 5% of my cost of goods – and we didn’t suffer from outages, except for the occasional hurricane or blizzard when we shut down anyway for the safety of our employees. Power quality was a big concern as some of our processes were extremely sensitive. One such process involved a several-ton machine floating on a pool of mercury whose metrology was controlled by 27 lasers. The machine was set up, started, and the door was locked because the process took three weeks of automated 24 x 7 machining. Power quality issues were always self-generated, not imported from the grid. We caused them and we fixed them.”

Life as an operating executive was easy, at least from an energy perspective. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case, and diligent energy management is now required to be successful. Exergy, the Concierge Utility®, was formed to provide energy management services to busy executives and help unburden operations and maintenance personnel.

The energy transition is in full swing, and it is important to remember that the transition affects both the generators of energy and the consumers of energy. Almost everyone is focused on the generation side of the transition – they add solar, wind, and batteries to their operations believing that will solve their problems. But the energy transition is creating significant challenges for energy consumers, and Exergy is here to help you manage and prosper. Only Exergy Energy is focused on the impacts of the energy transition on you.

The increase in intermittent renewables on the grid, coupled with extreme weather due to climate change, has resulted in a less reliable grid and a significant decline in power quality. Outages have more than doubled over the past five years and incidents of power quality issues are up 14-fold. Both are forecasted to get worse for at least the next decade.

Organizations need to protect themselves, but there are too many variables and unknowns: What do I need? A battery or a genset? What size? What fuel? How much will this cost, and where will the money come from? Most companies lack the experience and domain knowledge to manage their energy demand in this complex and changing energy market.

Exergy makes the decision easy: We provide the capital, we select the equipment, and we own, operate and maintain the equipment. Exergy supplies the power you need to be successful. We are your energy management department. Exergy is your Concierge Utility®.

Our Mission

Energy is life. To live is to use energy to transform resources and create something that did not previously exist. The driving energy varies widely, encompassing light from the sun (photosynthesis), to the caloric value of food, to the BTU content of fossil fuels, to the splitting and decay of atomic nuclei.

Energy creates and sustains life.

But energy is more than life, it is the force and power that allows a person and all of mankind to be freed from the limitations of our bodies and to harness the power of our minds. Without the application of external energy we could only build what we are physically capable of lifting and certainly never fly or move faster than we can run. Our quality of life and the entire global economy is based on energy. It is as vital as air and water to our survival.

We are committed to helping mankind grow and prosper. To lift up all people and improve the lives of everyone. This is only possible through the intelligent and sustainable use of energy. We do not have the answers to the world’s problems but we do know how to provide the most effective, efficient and sustainable energy to those that are trying. We contribute to the success of our planet and civilization by focusing our efforts on energy.

Exergy, what is it?

Exergy is the maximum amount of work that can be accomplished from the available energy in a system.

We created the company to allow our customers to create the most value from the energy they
consume. Exergy is not only our name but the value that our energy creates in the hands of our customers.

Exergy is a Concierge Utility®. We provide custom energy solutions for our customers so they are able to harness the exergy of their organization. Specifically, the maximum value creation from the energy they apply. We do this by providing energy in the most efficient, effective and sustainable form that helps our customers accomplish their mission.

Core Beliefs

  1. Respect. Everyone deserves respect. No one is above or below anyone else. Treat everyone with respect throughout the day regardless of whether they are Exergy people or anyone else.
  2. Diversity. We have two eyes which provides one perspective. The world is too complex to be understood from a single perspective. Embrace diversity to see a much bigger world.
  3. Honesty. Always tell the truth and the whole truth. Organizations succeed based on trust, and honesty is the foundation for trust.
  4. Golden Rule. Live it. Nothing else needs to be said.
  5. Ethics and integrity. We live by the highest standards. If you need to look down to see if you crossed a line, you have already failed.
  6. No corporate politics. Be candid, honest and thoughtful. We are on a mission and need everyone to be pointed in the same direction. Politics is a cross current that takes us off path.
  7. There are no business expenses, only investments. Looking at everything we do as an investment causes us to look ahead towards the desired outcome, and thereby we gain a clearer picture of the value we are trying to create.
  8. Seek efficiency. Constantly challenge the way we do things and see if we can improve. Exergy wants to tap the vast power of the individual and does not want to be bogged down in trivial or administrative stuff. If there is something that gets in your way, speak up.
  9. Manage your time. We do not take attendance or count your hours. We believe that time management is unique to every individual. You need to meet your commitments, and the most important commitment is to our customers. Make sure you are available when they need you.
  10. Speak up. If you have something to say, say it. There are no stupid questions or invalid opinions. Make sure your voice is heard. If we don’t agree, we will discuss and debate and weigh the merits of all positions.
  11. Lift up, do not put down. We will succeed only as a team. If someone needs your help, give it. Raising someone up improves the entire organization.
  12. Be a professional. A professional is someone who is committed to lifelong learning about what they are doing. If you think of this as a job and “turn off” with the clock, then you are in the wrong position. You must be passionate and committed to what you do, so much so that you are constantly striving to become better.
  13. Feedback. Ask for it and give it. Openly, respectfully and with the best interests of the person in mind.
  14. Think. Make time to step back and think about what you are doing. Look from all sides and study it. Things change and can be improved, but only if we think.
  15. Listen. Do not simply wait to speak. Really listen to what the other person is saying and try to understand. If you don’t understand, ask for help from the other person.
  16. Manners are more important than laws. If you treat people right, you will get their upmost power.
