For example, in Texas in the month of October, the daily range in power provided by wind and solar can range from 2,500 MW to 19,500 MW. That variation is almost 10 fold. MISO (Midwest) and SPP (Southern Power Pool) don’t fair much better.

With increased penetration and reliance on intermittent renewables, it’s easy to see why prices have become so volatile and the risk of outage has increased so dramatically.
