Leverage New Legislation to Build a Better School and Learning Environment

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which passed in November 2021, presents a historic once-in-a-generation opportunity to invest in America’s School Systems, with over $1.2 trillion allocated to new and existing programs. The law aims to address crucial aspects such as roads, bridges, rails, clean drinking water accessibility, high-speed internet, climate crisis mitigation, environmental justice advancement, and support communities that have been historically overlooked.

Here’s how the IIJA can further enhance PowerForward and what it makes available for schools between FY22 to FY26:

• $5 Billion for EPA Clean School Program: Provides substantial funding to support the EPA Clean School Program, which significantly enhances environmental sustainability and safety within school premises.

• Clean School Bus Grant: Delivers access to grants for the transition to clean school bus fleets, reducing carbon emissions and promoting cleaner air for students and communities.

• Clean School Bus Rebate: Sets aside rebates to adopt eco-friendly school buses, offering financial incentives for sustainable transportation solutions.

• $500 Million for Renew America’s Schools: Supports the Renew America’s Schools initiative, modernizing school infrastructure and integrating eco-energy solutions effectively.
