Not only does our quality of life depend on the availability of reliable and affordable energy, LIFE itself requires the same access. Increasing energy costs, coupled with inflation on the rest of the necessities of life is going to force power outages on the most vulnerable of the population, according to the latest quarterly analysis by the National Energy Assistance Directors Association.
Less LIHEAP funding, higher utility debt means more power shut offs, says watchdog group
“the Q3 report projects that utility shut offs will increase by 300,000 households to 3.5 million by the end of the year, and while families are protected from shut offs during cold months, 33 states do not have shut off protections for the summer months, leaving families vulnerable to extreme heat.”
The energy transition is making energy more expensive. Trying to fundamentally change the largest and most complex machine on the planet (the grid), without a plan and subject to the winds of politics and platitudes, is not a sane way forward.
